Yes Levina using the EF-M adapter. Any and all EF lenses can be used on the M5=a huge plus for this mirrorless. I've been adapting EF lenses to Sony via Metabones for I guess almost two years now and never satisfied. There is no 'language' barrier between EF and M so that helps a lot.
So far I've actually shot for 20 mins so no overall judgement, nothing moving fast but plenty of reviewers out there (Kai has a new review on his site) showing its weakness in AF-tracking. But for single AF is is pretty snappy.
I can already tell those who wanted the M5 to be a BIF machine will be sad but I can already tell that for panning shots of large birds like eagles and egrets it will do in a pinch and maybe even more. I say this because I've done BIF with Lumix and the single AF is so quick with the Panasonics it can be done. Not as easy of course as say 7Dii but doable; and the M5's singe AF is quick enough for that. I think Kai's video shows that AF-tracking in AF servo is good for the panning shots but not when the target heads right at you, but that is the challenge for all cameras eh, well excepting something like a D500/D5 or 1DXii/7Dii.

We were gone paddle camping last 5 days and 4 days of Sun! Before that we had 6 days here at home of nonstop rain. Now I'm back and looking at the 10 day forecast we one day of Sun and 9 days of more rain :( So it will be a while before I get to play outside with the M5.

Thanks very much for writing that all down, Robert. That's good info.

The 1DIV is my bird camera and it will be for years to come. But I'm looking for something for the dark season when I'm just walking the park looking for small birds on sticks. The M5 would make a nice light combo with my 300/4 or 400/5.6 and the larger crop factor would also be helpful with those tiny birds.

And could it be that the M5, even though it is mirrorless and has a 1.6 crop factor but as the latest kid on the block, does better with higher ISO speeds in terms of noise than a 1DIV? Your little Titmouse looks pretty darn good at ISO3200, even though I am aware of the fact that it's a downsized file. Any thoughts on this maybe? I just need something better for that dark season (weather forecast here is a full week of dark and grey; days that end before they have properly begun). A 6D would also be a good choice. But ff means my lenses get even shorter and getting something like the Tamron 150-600mm would solve that, but f/6.3? Ugh...

I will check out Kai's review. I love his reviews. In between all his goofing around I find him quite informative.

Thanks again!

Thanks again!

I am starting to use a Tamron 150-600 on my new 5DIV, and the results are quite surprising even at 6.3 If you can rent one to try I would recommend it. I'll try and post some stuff soon with that combo. Just finished getting everything dialed in... And I still need lots of practice anyways ;-)a
I was worried about the light gathering of that lens, but it has worked well on all three cameras I've tried - 5DII, &DII. and the 5DIV. And the newer version seems even better still. There are some nice examples of the lens already in the Lens Sample section... Sorry to jump in, just wanted to add my $0.02 worth :-)

Levina lots to think about, just had the M5 two days now and up to an hour of shooting/tinkering.
One thing for sure, you can't beat the weight....it's competing with mFT in that category :)

Here's one with the 400DOii

EXIF for any curious-

Canon EOS M5
EF400mm f/4 DO IS II USM
ƒ/4.0 400.0 mm 1/1000 1600 Flash (off, did not fire)

It looks like it's working pretty good so far. Just wondering if you can MFA your lens with it?
