I too have developed a fondness for Nifty and will be sad to see him go next week.

We did have a bit of snow this morning. These two photos of Main Street in Westcliffe were taken from the same area, the first one is looking east.

For the second one, I turned to my left to look west. At the end of the road is the park with the observatory that Nifty visited a couple of weeks ago. At the very right edge of the Jones Theater you can see the edge of a hand painted mural.

These are the two murals on the side of the theater. One depicts the theater in an earlier life as the Canda Theater. It was originally a saloon in a booming mining town.

The other mural depicts the Feed Store which is right around the corner. It had been moved from north of town a while a go. Is was actually dismantled and reassembled. I'll get some photos
of the Feedstore before we're done with Nifty in Colorado.

Oh man, I love these, Paul. Main Street looks great in the snow, the murals are beautiful and the cattle shot is terrific. It sure is winter where you are!

Paul, those murals remind me of the murals in the neighboring small towns around me. I'll be visiting them when I get Nifty. Last time I had it I was pondering using my 35mm with it. I am still contemplating that. I think it will be a neat idea and give me a good excuse to dust off the Canon Rebel I have. :)

These are wonderful, Paul. Quite the winter wonderland - you'll be able to walk over the creek now. Love the cows especially the white-faced one. May I ask why the flag is at half-staff?

Thanks Annie. I will confess to having no idea about the flag.

Looks like you are going to have a white Christmas. We might but it is hard to say. Love the shots Paul.

If those shots were recent, then maybe the passing of John Glenn?

Leaving for FL Thursday, bringing nifty. Maybe the warm weather will get me in the mood to start shooting again.

Nifty got another chance to be a good lens for shooting wildlife, bless his little heart.

These are Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep. They are somewhat tolerant of humans, as they hang out near the highway quite often. This is a quite a heavy crop as they took retreat when Nifty moved in for a closeup.

Most of the people that live here grew up elsewhere. When we talk about first impressions of Westcliffe, many of us will refer to coming around this bend in the highway for the first time. The main access from the populated front range of Colorado is through Hardscrabble Pass, where the photo of the sheep was taken. A few miles over the pass you descend into the Wet Mountain Valley. There is a nice view of the peaks along the way but as you round this one particular corner, the entire range comes into view. Deb and I took a day trip from Denver, about a 3 hour drive, because we'd heard some great things but had never been here. We came around the corner and both gasped at the same time. We bought a weekend place shortly thereafter in 2004 and have been living here full time for 4 years now.

Best to click on the title below this one to take full advantage of Nifty's charms ;-)a ... 3 shot panorama.

Adorama Nifty and I were able to get out and shoot. I am off for Christmas and was able to get out and take some shots. Last week it was a little cold at -27 c (-17 F) so I figured it would be a great day to play in the snow and run around a waterfall.

I left early to drop my kids off at school and then headed to a favorite spot not to fall away. On the way as the sun was coming up I caught a nice shot as the sun rises over the foothills.

The falls were damaged in 2013 in a major flood and is about half the drop that it was pre flood.

With the cold there was a light fog. It created a nice mist everywhere and coated some of the plants.
