My thoughts were that he was either in character or his lid's on too tight.

Thanks for the comment. Second portrait is for a friend of mine who's a young french canadian country singer. It was commission work, it was him who chose the photo and wanted me to do this kind of cross process look.

I am french native so I don't fully understand what "drilling gaze" means but I'll try to look it up. :)

He means that the man is looking at the camera with a look that is so intense it's like his look is drilling holes right into the viewer. :)
