I have the gitzo bag for my 2541. It's not heavily padded but I like it.

Same here. It's pretty well done, after 2 years of bad treatments it still looks as new. I just wish it has a longer shoulder belt.

Which rrs bag would be most ideal? I'm thinking the Medium?

Take a look at this Pelican tripod case. I have one, and I can't be happier. This case has three things that are really important to me: 1) high quality material, especially the zippers; 2) very well padded all around; and 3) those side zipper pockets are indispensable, and unlike many other brand cases with inner pockets, they're on the outside.

I think that would work. I use that for my 24L RRS tripod

I have a Pelican case as well for my Gitzo G340 and RRS BH-55 ball head - very well padded and the external pockets are nice to have if you need them.
