Very Nice shots on that monitor! I really like the first one, the tail curves are very leading to the eye.

I have the 7D2 and 6D. The 6D for sports is not a good option if you are going to use it a lot because of the 11 point AF and much slower FPS. It is usable and I have done it but I would choose the 7DMKII everyday for every sport.

Thanks Ben. That is the same conclusion I am expecting if I go the route of 7dii + 6d as compared to 5d iii. I just see how well the 7dii is doing noise wise and know it would serve me well since I can do everything I do now with a 70d and then if I add a 6d that would do the portrait stuff very well. I started shooting Canon with a 60d and got very used to using center point for most focusing so I am sure I could make do with the 6d in those odd times when I find the 7dii lacking (if I ever come across something).

hi julie i travel os bit and if its africa or maybe india ( wildlife ) i always take a 400 but for that kind of trip (although never been to Cambodia) but have been to Europe and England a few times and to Singapore many times and also Thailand etc i would take the 15 -85 (or a 24 - 105) and also the the 200 f4 but i also take a 1.4 extender in the bag and i usually dont change lenses much and kind of just go with what i have on the day ( but thats of course if i had a good 7d mk11 - as sadly still having focus issues with it and its headed back to canon in Sydney after new year for them to have another go at it )

cheer rob

Rob,
You deserve a break. I hope Canon will provide a noteworthy effort to get your 7dii tip top.

The first 2 in that set are only cropped for composition, not much removed at all. The second 2 are heavier crops. I'm not sure how to quantify it, I'm not very aware of that when I crop stuff. I will see if I can post an original of one of those shots.

So I'll interpret your post to indicate that 400mm is quite acceptable for Eagles around the quad cities winter shooting. I asked only because I still contemplate a drive down from Chicago for some shooting, and would consider renting a lens for the weekend.

If you had your choice of lens to rent for this specific shooting, what would you recommend? Also, I didn't ask, do you also use under 400mm from the shooting spots, or is reach usually a challenge like most wildlife shooting?

The outdoor shot was at a tournament in Keystone CO. The rink was on a 5 acre pond that was really cool.

LOL. I am in Keystone this week. The resort would take issue by the way, with your term Pond, they call it Keystone Lake ;-)a been coming here for many years.

if you were travelling overseas, (Cambodia) would you take the 7DII and 15-85 and perhaps a 200 lightweight prime? Im trying to work out a light set up for when I go there. Its hot and sticky and the idea of changing lenses all the time does not appeal to me at all. I do have full frame but really not keen on taking it along with 24-70L and something longer. Maybe I could pick up a cheap 50mm for possible low light shots as well

Have you considered renting the 28-300 or something like that? Lots of range in one lens, may be easier than two or more? Just an idea :-)

Tech changes so quickly so this will help me as well. Two things from a few years ago.

My fastest card is a UDMA 7, 800X for max read speed, write speed 20. Capacity is by choice and I have done up to a 28 burst at 8 FPS with no issues. If anything I would get faster max read speed. Not sure if it is 1000X or faster these days.

no because its Cambodia Im travelling to, very hot and sticky and last thing I want to do is carry heavy stuff which is why I even thought of the 7DII and 15-85, I may have to consider taking the 5DII and I small wide angle and a prime I think

Looks like 1066X is the fastest. They sure have come down in price.

I have been using these with good success. They have a lifetime warranty. The brand. Not necessarily the size. I think I have 32 gig ones.
