Ok guys, I've decided to keep the P4P, at least until something better comes out.

The 1" sensor and 20MP camera on P4P is very good. I wouldn't say it's leaps and bounds better than the Mavic Pro, but still noticeably better. I like the fact I can crop a bit more as well.

But please don't discount Mavic Pro. MP is a real deal and I kinda miss selling them. Size is second to none and I actually found the handling of MP to be better than P4P (even in strong windy conditions).

Let me share some samples from P4P.

nor the loss of the p3a lol. I've got that, the pelican and three extra batteries and the 4 bank charger for it too. I'll keep the pelican and adapt it to the P4, from what I'm gathering just need to cut the battery slots out bigger.

I don't see the resale dropping too much on the P3's so I may just keep it for a tad longer until I can pickup a P4P for 1k which may take another year possibly. I don't use mine alot more of an expensive toy but with the better camera I would probably use it awhole lot more.

I think the range of the Phantom 3 Pro is up to 5kms or something like that. I was only about 1.5 kms out and it's a river so I'm not too far off the bank.

Wow, that's impressive. So the transmitters and receivers are not at all the same as used for RC aircraft, heli's, cars etc? I'd not really considered this before - are these communicating via cel towers, or satellites ?

I'm no drone expert, but will try to answer your question.

At least for both Mavic Pro and P4P, they communicate via GPS (outdoors) and ATTI mode (indoors). As for range, it really depends on where you are flying. Sometimes, my bird will fly 5000 ft with no problem and sometimes it would fly less than 1000 ft and will warn me with "weak image transmission signal". I have yet to fly in the middle of nowhere where the range should shine, so I can't say too much about range. I did order the range extender from ebay, to see if it would actually boost my range.

Thanks David. It isn't all fun though. I crashed my P3P on Christmas Day trying to do a Litchi Waypoint mission of about 6km. I only got about 200 meters from my start point. Something was off with my calibration because I'm positive the app said I was at 50 meters but who would have thought the tree was about 52 meters? So that's either a really tall tree or my calibration was off.

My VLOG of the incident including the crash.
