Sony A7x lounge

A few months back my half sisters and brother asked me to take a photo of their kids for our dad. It taxed the buffer on the a7R II, but I finally snapped one where they are all mostly smiling/looking at the camera. This was captured with the Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS:

that's why it's important to use tripod on group shots. that way every shots are in the same angle. Easy to switch eyes, nose, smile etc in post.

Also when you have the composition locked in, you can keep your finger on the shutter without looking at the camera. You can then just keep grabbing their attention and push the shutter when they're all looking.

took the a7 and siggy 24-70 out for a drive.

local park,ducks were hungry and quite happy to see us with some food haha.

Day 3 of trying to balance my RX1RII on this gimbal...fail fail fail

It can be a pain. I got the DJI Osmo Mobile for my new iPhone 7 Plus and at first thought there may be an issue with the combination. At last i figured out the weight with the phone case on was too much to balance it. Hope you get your issue figured out too

Making progress. I got it somewhat balanced...its still jittery when I engage the motors so I need to fine tune the balancing a bit.

I also need to get the motor settings tuned via the software.....just need to figure out how to overwrite the firmware file I corrupted lol.

There's a huge learning curve to this, but I'm figuring it out...slowly.

Edit: a friend of mine got the DJI OSMO and that thing is slick. The tracking features are awesome. Playing with it is what motivated me to give gimbals a try. I was going to get the DJI OSMO, but snagged the pilotfly for $300 on ebay.

Nice work David. Getting all kids smiling in a single shot is really freakin hard.

Really cool! Makes me want the RX1RII and pilotfly...

But at first i need to shoot something interesting with the osmo and see how it works. First impression is that it balances super nice but i plan on mixing footage from the sony with footage from the iphone. I hope it wont be visible

I've seen the video work of people who mixed smartphone footage with footage from ILC cameras and honestly in good light you can't really tell. You don't really need a 42mp FF sensor for video in good light.

A lot of videographers are actually using micro-four thirds systems...mainly for the ability to use different focal lengths and selective focus and what not.

Another visit to Maori Bay on Auckland's west coast last night.

Someone had carved a plane in the sand. It looked amazing from the hill above.

Got out to shoot tonight while in NC visiting family...I see now why no one likes the sunstars on the Batis lenses...yeah, they are kinda mushy. I think I am going to find a Canon 16-35II, they make great sunstars...trade out the 17-40L. Managed a couple decent images, but it was mostly scouting for sunrise tomorrow morning.

I think the canon 16-35 f4 has decent stars as well.

edit: btw, the fe 24-70 f4 has great stars, i think the fe 16-35f4 is suppose to be great as well

Travis, the Canon 16-35L II had awesome sunstars. The Loxia 21 is equally as good but I know you desire a zoom lens.

A local swimming hole on the Guadalupe River that I'm sure is the scene of untold memories and fun. I tried to mask back in an exposure where the rope swing was not moving but ultimately preferred this version.
