In the middle of a 2 week rental of this lens. Very solid performer!

The IS and light gathering ability made this a solid performer at the Star Wars costume exhibit.

Are you going to buy it once the rental period is over?

Definitely considering doing so although it won't be this particular copy as the option to buy price is higher compared to "normal" used prices I see. Been thinking about retooling the wider end of my glass and had always been interested in this lens. The FL has been very comfortable and seems to suit my shooting style.

This lens and the 35mm focal length in general is easy to fall in love with. It's size and weight are great too, I've started carrying my 6D everywhere with me again with this lens attached.

I switched to a sony a6500 system. Picked up a 24mm 1.8 to cover the 35mm FOV. I really miss the IQ of the canon 35 2.0 paired with 5d3!

How come you didn't keep your EF lenses like this one and use Metabones?

First, I had hoped to avoid any adapters in an effort to keep the kit as small as possible. That was the whole reason for going mirrorless. I then decided to go with the sony system as the M5 doesn't have much in the way of lenses to choose from. Would have LOVED to stay with canon but I'm gonna stick it out for a year or so.

Second, and more importantly, I prefer 35mm FOV over 52.5mm FOV which is what the 35 f/2 would have been on the crop camera. That is why I went with the Sony 24mm 1.8....it renders 36mm on the cropper. I love the 35 f/2 but just don't think it would have had a place in my mirrorless system.

Having said these things, I just picked up a used MC-11 so I can use an 85 1.8 as I'm longing for a bit more reach. I did grab a sony 50 1.8 (which BTW is a really nice lens) but it only comes to 75mm. I didn't think it would be much of an issue but now realize I'd like a little more reach and subject separation on occasion. The 85 with come to 127.5mm FOV which should be really nice. Paired with the MC-11 it should still be reasonable portable. So there you have it....More info than you asked for!

I enjoyed your insight.
