interesting... what about is the range of a used 1dmk4, I'm thinking it's out of my budget :)

Is it not worth upgrading to a 7dII or possibly the 5dIII?

You can get a used 1D Mark IV from B&H for $1,899.95. (Condition 9/10 = "Shows signs of use, but very clean"). You would be able to find one privately for a better price, but as any private purchase, double and triple check the background of the seller, camera, etc. Privately, see if the buyer will provide a verified "actuations" (shutter count) for the camera.
I live in a city of 70,000 people. The newspaper here utilizes three excellent photogs. They use the Canon EOS 7D Mark II and like it. I see B&H has a decent deal going right now for $1,499.00. Here is an image taken w/my used 1D Mark IV and I've included a screenshot of the metadata. Hope this helps.

He was practicing his shot during halftime... no, he did not have a ball.

I liked this one because of the position of the ref. He was in mid-count on an inbounds.

My son's travel team got to play at the Palestra in Philadelphia yesterday after the Penn-Fairfield game, so figured it'd be a chance to take shots of a college game (albeit from upper level).

Some Girls HS B-Ball from yesterday. This was shot at the local community college gym. It is a nice place but the lighting is worse than most HS gyms. There are overhangs at the baseline on both sides. This makes the baseline very dark and no light in the payers faces when they are facing the basket. The court was lit well in the middle for whatever that is worth.

(First time posting here, so tell me if I can post more......)

2016 Les Schwab Invitational high school tournament, near Portland Oregon.
Championship game : Nathan Hale (Seattle) vs. Sierra Canyon (Ca.)

Pictured : Michael Porter Jr. (Nathan Hale senior) and Marvin Bagley III (Sierra Canyon junior)
Both of these players are highly versatile STUDS, and will be top draft picks.

(One with a D500, and one with a D750. Both used the 70-200mm)

Have had the 80D for a few weeks now after using T3i for a few years. Love the improved autofocus and burst rate as well as anti-flicker mode. High ISO is a bit better and noise can be cleaned up a little easier. Also nice to have additional ISO settings (2500, 4000, etc.) without needing to use auto ISO. More megapixels mean you have a bit more latitude in cropping, though you can't go crazy. It's certainly not a cure-all, but I feel like I have had more keepers -- and better keepers -- since I got the 80D.

Great to hear from someone else that had t3i. I agree with the annoyance of the ISO settings, and for that matter the max iso setting to begin with. higher burst rate and ability to clean up noise easier and better with better autofocus... these are the most important items for me really... and for most I suspect... I hope the 7dII gives me even a tad more with the high ISO...

What lens are you using while we are on subject??

I use the 7DMKII and use it for the newspapers web and print. I can easily shoot at 4000 ISO without any issues.
