I keep seeing numerous amazing landscape images on FM shot with the 24-70 GM. They don't lack for detail or vibrance.

I see some great ones from Joshua over there. As a travel lens and to avoid changing lenses on the beach or other areas like that, I think the zoom is a wise choice. However I was concerned from Carlo's report that the GM lens wasn't a good match for photographing landscapes.

This is so great. For our house i cant decide what images to hang. My grandma wanted 3 prints of mine and seeing those on her wall was very satisfying :)

I was pretty much covered in work and with enjoying life without cameras last year, i hope i can shoot more this year!

I have images hanging on my parents house, my mother in law, my father in law...family members and in several countries around the world...there is something rewarding in that...

Thanks! and heres the photo below. Bear in mind they are looking at it from a construction point of view and not a photographers point of view :) . We were constructing a new concrete railway track through a 900m long tunnel in the centre of Glasgow under tight deadlines as the tunnel was only shut for a set period to minimise disruption to the public. This is us doing the first line of two utilising the existing line on the other side. We had already demolished the line on the left of the photo.

That is really cool...I should get more creative with some of my on site photos...I did for a while, but I don't carry the Sony with me...

Fred has raved about the 24-70mm GM for landscapes as well, and has posted some amazing landscape shots with his. If it weren't a 2-pound lens, I might consider just buying one and be settled with my lens collection. Since I have the Batis 25 and 85, a great 24-70mm would be an instant gap filler. 2 pounds, though. Not sure I want that. OTOH, I wasn't bothered by the Canon 24-70L II too much - with adapter it's probably heavier than the GM.

Looks super impressive here too:

Granted my point of reference in the Zeiss Loxia and Batis lenses. The GM lenses are comparatively very flat.

I guess its all relative, or maybe I need to give the 24-70 GM another shot at shooting landscapes.

Wow that's a heavy lens. I wonder how balanced it is on the a7RII. It appears to be an excellent performing lens.

So, I just grabbed the boxes for my three Canon zooms to photograph them for sale and........and.......and......and I hesitated.

I just can't sell them just yet. Putting all my Canon-mount primes up for sale for sure, but those zooms are so good I may just hold off on them.

If I end up keeping them, I don't think there is anything wrong with going forward with a simple kit of three Batis, one Laowa, and three Canon f/4L IS zooms.

Quick question....do the sony shooters here use the histogram to help with exposure compensation in Av mode? If so, in general how much compensation are people dialing in for average shots. I found that with canon bodies I dialing in about +2/3 stop generally snugged the histogram up to the right pretty well....at least most of the time. I'm finding the histogram to be a bit all over the place with the sony body. In general it wants to way under expose. I've had to dial in up to + 1 1/3 stops at times to get the histo over to the right. Just curious if anyone has any comments on this topic.
Thanks

I'm pretty certain I use 100+ [when I do actually use zebras] & I know that as long as they are only just showing there is no issue with recovery.

Me too. On the construction sites I work on I've been up crazy heights on scaffolds and even a tower crane and felt fine as it's double handrailed but as soon as I look over the edge I get this weird feeling and don't like it. The videos on YouTube of the people doing flips at roof edges etc freaks me out to the max

I spent about 18 months at the new [at the time - 2009ish] MOD Corsham site. We made/fitted a big main staircase while there. Two of us were at least 6m up wobbling about on a tower scaffold, in February, whilst it was snowing & all the steelwork was being blindly craned in through the roof above us for us to bolt into position...... That was fun

You're right Lee. I just got to dig down deep, grab some courage and get them sold! Thanks. :)

Don't know about anyone else, but selling always turns me into a basket case. Don't want any regrets later.

Great shot Eddie. As a retired contruction inspector, I can appreciate this photograph in detail...and thanks for saying "concrete" instead of "cement". ;-)a

I've sold a bit lately. Feels good :)

I've a Fuji X-E2 to go.

Then my Canon FD 35mm body & 3 lenses.

That'll leave me A7, CV 40 FE 35/2.8 & Batis 85....... Plus my Yashica 35mm stuff which will adapt if needed - 28mm & 50mm ;)
