I've sold a bit lately. Feels good :)

I've a Fuji X-E2 to go.

Then my Canon FD 35mm body & 3 lenses.

That'll leave me A7, CV 40 FE 35/2.8 & Batis 85....... Plus my Yashica 35mm stuff which will adapt if needed - 28mm & 50mm ;)

why cv40 and fe 35? aren't those locals really close?

Question for you Batis 25/a6x00 owners...does the combination work well? Can it work effectively as your "35mm" lens?

I was looking at the a6500 thread on FM today and was blown away by idsurfer's images as well as others. Looks like an amazing camera and it got me wondering if I should consider adding one to my kit and leveraging the crop factor to extend the range of my lens kit. Possibly a dumb thought, but I might as well float it out and see what you think.

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for a friend(she's really into make up and a they all use them to take selfies with their phones for social media)

I decided since I had in in hand to take a couple shots to test it out

Was not expecting much from it since it was just a cheap 45 watt unit, but was very surprised, it took me a total of 2 minutes to take out the stand, set up the light and click off 2 frames.

If you're into run and gun style, not having to worry about settings or moving around lights and just need the shots quick these are game changing for what the price is.

While I love the light its giving, i'm not a big fan of the catchlight it produces. totally subjective.

I merged two brackets to blend in the sun star and avoid the flare that comes from the Tokina 90. I'm fairly certain the sun star from the Loxia 85 will look better. I don't think the sun stars from the Tokina are too bad.

yeah is a great combo, just makes the build in flash un-usable.

In focal length yes. Not in style ;)

I prefer the CV40 for its look and the fact it's f/1.4 but sometimes when I'm out with the kids/girlfriend they need autofocus so I'll take and use the FE35.

David I sometimes use the B25 on the a6300. It's great when I don't need flash but when I do it's not so great as it blocks the built in flash as it's so big. However I prefer the FE28 on that body as it results in an overall smaller setup. The flash issue may be of no concern to you as I appreciate built in flash is poor anyway but that's my use for that camera (snapshots of family, a lot of the time indoors in dim light).

To answer your actual question though the B25 works well as a 35mm alternative.i like having the B85 on the a7rii and the B25 or FE28 on the a6300 in the bag at the same time then I mix and match. I have set up my a6300 so that it matches my a7rii in terms of menus etc (less custom buttons though)

Thanks Eddie. It gives me another idea to consider. Once I get every Canon-mount lens sold I need to force myself to be patient and see what develops this year.

Surely we'll see another Batis or two. Maybe we'll see a Batis 35 and 50/55, which would complete my all-Batis kit. A Batis 15mm would be really cool too!

We need a 135mm, but I'm thinking that might be a Sony Zeiss Apo Sonnar 1.8 or 2/135mm; a bigger more satisfying bokeh portrait lens. But, what do I know: I never expected a Loxia 2.4/85mm. :p

David its funny, ive wished for so long for a B35 as I think of myself as a 35mm shooter but now that ive had the B25 for a while my views have changed as I cant see me giving that lens up and ive actually adapted to the focal length. Last night I was thinking the ideal Batis for me would split my 25 and 85 and then I realised thats 55mm and regardless of how good a B50/55 would be I dont see how it would force me to sell the Zony. So that leaves me wanting a B135 or a Zony135 or a cheap Sony 135 I think. for the first time in forever I feel quite settled with my lenses

You make an excellent point. It's another argument for patience. After living with just my 12, 18, 25, and 85 for a while, I may develop a very different perspective. On my recent KC project I used those four lenses exclusively with a one-shot exception: I needed the Otus 55mm. That squares perfectly with what you're saying.

I know there is a crap-ton of e-mount 50's already, and I can already hear the groans over at FM if they release a B50/55, but in my thinking a well-distributed lens lineup is Sony's problem, not Zeiss'. I would like Zeiss to complete their Loxia and Batis lineups irrespective of what Sony or anyone else is doing. I've never been a collector of anything, but a complete collection of Batis lenses would look really really cool in my bag. :)
