Looks good ... i took a photo of a dish my sister prepared, with my M5, and it didn't do the food justice for reasons you mentioned.

Olympus M1 MkII, Olympus M5 MkIII: Lenses covering 8 - 300mm
Canon M5: A variety of Canon, Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, prime and zoom lenses, Samyang fisheye, 2 lovely Minolta MD, just for fun a Helios 44-2 58m - and adapters.

Thanks! I think food is one of those things that's so simple that it's easy to get it wrong.

I picked up the 10-18 to go on my EOS M recently. I've been wanting a 17-40L or 16-35L for my 5D and figured this was worth a shot to see if I would use this focal range much. So far, I like it a lot and it seems like a good fit for the M. The range isn't as nice as the 16-35, but for 1/4 of the price, you can't beat the value. Looking forward to putting this thing thru it's paces soon.

To cover wide I use the Samyang/Rokinon 8mm fisheye, sometimes I do wish it was rectangular though.

I haven't posted in awhile but I have made more of an effort to get out and take pictures lately. These are some taken within the past month.

Just managed to order an elusive EF-M 18-150 for delivery tomorrow (Monday 9th). Can't find a lens hood for love nor money, so I'll have to be patient. Have found one subjective review (in Dutch) that says it's sharper than the EF-S 18-135 STM (via the adapter) even wide open, and have also found some sample images at low-res from one owner with an M5, but there's very little out there at the moment. I will try and post some sample pics and 100% crops ASAP taken on my original M, although the weather here in the UK is due to be grey and wet tomorrow, so please bear with me.

Despite the weather being absolutely dire here today, I have managed a few shots from an open window across the valley, and a few indoors, enough to get a first impression. I won’t post these pics, as they are not ideal.

Firstly, the thing many people seem to be hung up about – yes the mount is plastic, just like the EF-M 55-200. I personally don’t have an issue with this at all. The rear element however is extremely close to the back of the lens; beware of finger marks or worse when putting the end-cap back on!

Physically it’s about the same size as the aforementioned EF-M 55-200, but it has a 55mm filter thread rather than 52mm on the 55-200. I mentioned that the lens hood is not yet available here in the UK, but as a stop-gap, the hood from the EF-M 11-22 fits, so it will give me some degree of physical protection in the short-term even if not ideal for light shielding.

Now for a quick image assessment:

At 18mm (f/3.5) there is quite a noticable amount of barrel distortion, but not unusual in a lens of this range. Corner to corner sharpness is good, even without the lens optimisation in DPP. There appears to be a small amount of CA, but nothing worth worrying about. Initial thoughts are that it is at least as sharp as the original EF-M 18-55, but I need better weather without rain to show you worthwhile examples.

At the telephoto end there is a small amount of pincushion distortion, but again, nothing unusual. Unlike the EF-M 55-200 which seems to soften towards the far end of the zoom (well mine does anyway), the EF-M 18-150 seems to retain a good level of detail and sharpness even at 150mm wide open (f/6.3). I don’t have an EF-S 18-135 STM to compare it with, but I do have the original non-USM IS version, and this EF-M 18-150 wipes the floor with it IMHO.

The weather promises to be brighter and clearer tomorrow, so I will do some more representative image tests. Even with the limited testing I’ve been able to achieve today, my first impressions are very good, and it will almost certainly be my walkabout lens of choice, with the EF-M 11-22 as the second.

I've been pretty impressed so far with this little combo. I haven't shot a lot with it yet, but here are a few sample pics I took on my lunch break at work. Typical gloomy winter day, but I was still happy with what I got.

Okay, still far from ideal weather, but here goes. I have compared the EF-M 18-150 with the EF-M 18-55, both wide open at f/3.5 on as close as I could get identical shots. The first image is the whole scene from the 18-150 @ 18mm f/3.5. The post following shows crops from the new 18-150 then the old 18-55 for direct comparison. I chose the far left side for 100% as it showed the difference the best with what I had available. All shots processed in DPP with appropriate Canon profiles - had forgotten what a dire piece of software DPP is!

I did the same test with the new lens at 150mm wide open and compared it to the EF-S 55-250 set to 150mm wide open. The only discernible difference was that the EF-S is a faster lens. As far as IQ was concerned I could tell no obvious difference anywhere across the image between them. I don’t see any point in posting those comparisons for that reason.

Crops from the new 18-150 then the old 18-55 for direct comparison from the scene above (no that is not camera shake on the EF-M 18-55 image, it really is that bad at the side and perfect in the middle). I chose the far left side for 100% as it showed the difference the best with what I had available. In the centre there is little to distinguish between them.

And just after I have posted some images from a very grey day, there is at last a good review from a couple of days ago showing up in web searches...
http://www.photographyblog.com …mm_f_35_63_is_stm_review/ (external link)

At least they think the same as me from the lens sample they have, although the review has the benefit of the higher-res M5 over my original M mk1.

Here's hoping for an Adobe RAW profile real soon for LR, along with some sunshine.

Finally some sunshine and time to edit the photos. Manualy estimated distortion correction (it's only slight) and a small amount of edge sharpness improvement, just like a real profile would. Allegedly DXOptics will have an EF-M 18-150 profile available in February, not sure about ACR as that info always seems to be on a need to know basis, and Joe Public doesn't need to know ;-)a
EF-M 18-150 not in the POTN lens database yet by the looks of it. This shot was @40mm f/6.3, but that is listed in the Flickr info.
