Very nice, the last time we had a fall of snow locally that was around long enough for me to get out and photograph it was back in December 2009. Actually the last time we had a really good fall of snow was back in Jan/Feb 1987. I was in the RAF back then and the snow as so bad that they had to fly us into the Radar station where I worked, RAF Neatishead, from RAF Coltishall, where we lived in a Puma helicopter, the only flight I took in an RAF aircraft, on duty in 9 years in the service. The fall was only about 9" to 12", but it drifted badly. The lanes into our radar site were in cuttings that were about 8 feet deep, and then there was about 4 feet of hedges along the top. The snow filled everything to the top of the hedges. The centers of the adjacent fields were basically devoid of snow, then it drifted up over the hedge, and more or less did the same thing on the other side of the road. The road was about 20 feet wide, and all we had to dig ourselves out were spades and entrenching tools! It took about six hours to clear a ten foot long length of the lane by hand, then the next door farmer turned up with a digger bucket on the front of his tractor, which sped things up considerably, with him being able to dig out about two hours worth of shoveling in one scoop. I don't think any of us guys would have made it back in the 18th and 19th centuries as Navvies. So it's not surprising that when we do get some snow in the UK that everything grinds to a halt. One from 2009.

Thank you, Alan! We're pretty used to snow around here. Our annual snowfall is about 250 inches!
