So I just rented this for a trip to Miami. I will say this lens is SUPER sharp and VERY fast to focus, even on my 5D Mark II. It's a world of an improvement over the Ver. II.

However, after owning both a 24/1.4 and a 35/1.4, I find the 16-35 to be a little underwhelming, obviously due to the speed of the primes.

That being said, the convenience and functionality of the lens make it VERY tough to beat for a walk-around lens.

The above pics look great. I have been c onsidering the upgrade of my 16-35mm ii to the iii. Anybody else with pro or cons to help my decision.

I know he is out of focus. There was a fire and while I was taking photograhs he jumped into my frame and got out, I kept shooting and this was the pose he made before he got out of frame.

Why can't we choose the mark III of this lens on the gear list vmad

Doesn't look like there is much interest in this lens, why?

The 16-35 f4 IS is cheaper and produces much the same IQ. Many owners of the 16-35 f4 IS(like me) have a difficult time justifying paying the big bucks for the ver III. Unless you need f2.8, the f4 is a great lens.

How is the vignetting effect in version iii compared to version ii of this lens? Some sample shots taken between f8 to f11 will be interesting to see.
