Ok, this is more like it! This is the 22mm f/2. This is one fine little lens. Much sharper, better contrast and the bokeh is pretty nice.

Why doesn't your Sigma 18-35mm work on the M5?

It consistently back focuses. It also has this problem with the 80D in live view. The micro focus adjustments have no effect in live view. It was accurate with my 70D in live view but the 70D's DPAF is the very first version and really slow and finicky with this lens.

That's really strange, I think there may be a more serious issue with the lens as a Mirrorless body shouldn't have any issues with front/back focus.

Apparently there are issues with a few different 3rd party lenses on the m5.

Yes I'm curious about that too, as mine works fine.

Here's one with it ... heavy crop too.

I wonder if it has to do with DPAF. If I remember right the 1DX2 and 5D4 both have DPAF but we obviously wouldn't know if they have the issue since the 18-35mm is a crop lens.

My Sigma 85mm f1.4 has no issues on the M5.

When I was researching the Sigma 18 - 35 prior to buying it I read a lot of reviews which talked about back focus issues. I almost didn't buy it. So far as I know mine is OK, but I probably don't have enough of an eye to know if issues, as am quite short sighted. And I suppose I am more of a snap shot person rather than photographer.

Hawkes Bay - drought.
5 or 6 shot pano ... some distortion evident, but tells the way it is. Kit lens 15 - 45.

Love them all Rose.
The fence row catches and draws my eye.
The next to last image with the soft rolling hills looks wonderful (sorry about the drought).

Thanks Robert. I was lucky with the fence, as simply stopped by the road and climbed up a little hump ... poor dog left in car again.

Tried to get contrast of maize crop and dry hills. We are drought prone on the East coast NZ, and becoming more so. Need to go organic to get drought resistant feed. But resistance to that as well. Friends in the Wairarapa went organic several years ago, and have found their dairy farm doesn't suffer as much in drought as it used to.

Your posts would suggest otherwise...
As regards being short sighted, I am too & would say I'm very reliant on the camera to get it right as I can't ever tell in the viewfinder on the M5 (or the 1d3 for that matter) what's in focus & what isn't.

at least with liveview & a decent screen I can now have a reasonable attempt at manual focusing given a bit of time and if the subject isn't moving

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Thanks I do try hard!

Yes same here - sometimes I use viewfinder on tripod (70D) and can do that okay.

Looking forward to using focus peak thingy, or whatever it is called.

So far just enjoying having a light weight camera, which takes great images :-), AND uses my Canon lenses with adapter.

Can you try this?

make sure the lens is wide open. When I do this it locks focus confidently but when I check the photo zoomed in it is backfocused by the same amount every time.
