ya look for a rokinon 14mm f2.8 its a wicked lens,a few others here use it too and the images are amazing,if your doing landscapes auto focus isn't that important any ways.

I've just picked up this lens week after Christmas. Primarily, I got it for Asto along with the Samyang 24mm f1.4 I have. My 24mm is in canon mount and therefore adapted, the 14mm is in FE mount.

I'm blown away by how good it is, even for normal landscape and has become one of my favourites already. I can't use filters on mine and I'm not going to the expense of a filter system for this lens, but very very happy with it.

Most of my recent beach and water shots (https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=18243936) a couple of pages back were with this lens.

Vinz, on the last image, have you tried to open up the shadows a bit? Her dress seems too dark with almost no detail...on my monitor at least. I didn't realize her dress was purple until I opened up the shadows in ACR.

Makes sense. I also want to try it for Astro. Not for the sky but for the foreground shot. I'm thinking instead of a really long low ISO shot where we could end up with hot pixels i could try shorter higher ISO shots using SR app to reduce noise (then blend in the sky shot in post)

Hey, I read your post earlier and thought I would give it a try.

These were not a planned shoot, but it was night time and clear sky's at home tonight, so shot off my back deck (washing on the fence) and plenty of ambient street and house lights. Shot with A7mkii and Samyang 14mm f2.8. All shots shot at f2.8

I made the mistake of not taking shorter higher ISO for the foreground, but shot the SR app for 8 shots at ISO 1000 for 10 seconds each. Probably still too much noise. The sky shot I did ISO 3200 for 15 seconds. I didn't spend much time on the masking for the merge, just made a layer that I could brush off the dark foreground of the sky shot. I will try again with higher ISO and shorter shots, but all shots are below.

Yep that's the idea Gary. I want to see how clean I can get the foreground with SR app at relatively high ISO and also how much detail is retained.

I've came to the conclusion eye AF is useless in low light. Shooting just now at f/2, 1/125, ISO 4000 and it just doesn't work. I've noticed this on loads of occasions mainly when indoors. Very frustrating

Eddie I've found that it works in low light if you prefer us the lens using standard AF first, and then use eye focus to get the critical focus

Her tattoo kind of spoils the 1930's look but otherwise, I like the photograph.

The "Pet" can punch shown here is like the one my family used when I was growing up to punch holes in the can of evaporated milk they used as cream for their coffee. In those days, the top of these cans didn't have a lip on them so a regular can opener wouldn't work.

I used a single flash off camera right using a small shoot through umbrella.

I hope no one minds but here's a photo taken at my grandmother's around 1950 that shows a can of Carnation Evaporated Milk on the table. I hope you can tell that the can has no lip, hence the need for the punch.
