I see the M 22mm f/2 lens is $NZ 249 .... not sure about that length but at that price could be tempted. Can always pano if need wider I guess ....

I will warn you only only, if you get this lens you will never want to take it off! I got mine for about $180 AUD from a friend (a store called JB Hifi, not sure if they are in NZ as well as AUS) and it's easily my favorite lens.

Hmmm - just been looking at the Flickr thread for it ...... Think I'm hooked! We do have JB but I have an account at Expert Info Tech so will probably buy it there. I just love fast lenses, after owning a couple of others ....

It also looks like the perfect accompaniment for the M5. Have wanted to try street photography, but never quite game, however this little number could be just waiting for me :-)

The thread on here has some great images too! The majority of the images I've posted have been with the 22mm. On my 6D my most used lens is the 35mm f2 IS and the 22mm f2 gives a very similar FOV on the M5. I mainly shop from Jb purely because of my friend, he gets me staff price and that's how I got the M5 so cheap haha.

Good luck, it can take some getting used to depending on where you live. One reason I love Hong Kong is because you can photograph people from a few meters away and they don't even care. Considering the size of M5 +22mm, it would look more like a standard P&S so people wouldn't think twice if you aim it at them!

Hmm .... I live in Hastings and there can be some challenging people about :-).

It's interesting - I was on holiday for a wedding in Shanghai in 2010, and simply waved my camera at people, and raised my eyebrows, and they were happy to oblige. In fact sometimes Chinese tourists would ask us to be in their photos, as they had never seen "whiteys" before :-). My sister who had travelled in China a fair bit reckoned photography would be an issue in markets etc, but I never found that at all. I also think when I'm on holiday I'm more relaxed about taking photos which helps.

I'm really trying to find a reason to go with the M5 instead of something from Sony like the 63/6500.
So far, all I really like from the M5 is the screen. BTW, I'm making the move from DSLR to mirrorless.

Not gonna try to "convert" you to the canon M5. Either you handle it and play with it...or you don't. Big factor for me is I already own canon glass, which I consider fantastic...and the M5 plays well with it. The small m lenses are great for convenience, but not in the same league as L glass (obviously).

Lens is 300 f4l in these shots. Taken today at Panama City Beach...74 deg. f, in January. I love Florida!

I'll post a few more shots with the EF-m 22 later tonight. That is an awesome little lens, too! :-)

If I take enough pictures, at least one of them should turn out...maybe

The m5 is definitely a camera for someone already invested in the canon ecosystem. If you don't already have canon glass its kind of a hard sell.

I'm attaching a 22mm stm shot of sunrise at Panama City Beach this morning...

I agree about the Canon glass .... just loving the lightweight to carry around too. Just going to order the 22mm f/2 now :-)

So far, all I really like from the M5 is the screen. BTW, I'm making the move from DSLR to mirrorless.

When you want 400mm on the a6300/a6500 you're currently out of luck.
Any of the EOS EF lenses AF natively on the M5, so you can have greater than e-mount 300mm, all the way up to EOS 800mm if you want.
Like most I have a few Canon lenses so the M5 decision was an easy one but I bought for one lens specifically, the 400mm/F5.6. For birds and
wildlife it is a hard combo to beat for weight/size/weildability. Plus you can pop into your pants the 22mm for landscaping on the way to the animals.

I also have a6000 and a6300. Personally I think the ergonomics of the M5 are better.

We can find imperfections for any camera eh? I can say for example that my ability to crop into an image with the 1DXii is limited by the pixel density (20+ mps on FF),
so that is a limitation. When I compare the single AF focus speed of the M5 to my Oly M1 mk ii is seems very slow but no Canon ever made has single AF focus as
fast as mFT. Bottom line for a lot of us is to accept the limitations of each and get creative in our work arounds.

The second one was hard to edit since I couldn't open it in PS. Didn't even know about the currency protection thing before.
