My first shots of 2017 - went on a road trip from my home in Christchurch up to Auckland for a family Christmas, then slowly made our way back home. 4500kms later and we made it home with a ton of photos to go through.

The stunning beach at Matapouri before the stars disappear:

The foreground is too dark. It would help the photo if you lighten this up this area.

I love the mood, and the low light. It makes it look real, not "day for night"
Both images look fantastic here on my screen.
I particularly love the soft colors pushing through in the first image.

Both look fantastic - have a great "feel" about them.

Hope you're getting them printed...

Thanks for the comment. Do you mean the first shot or both? I Personally feel like the foreground has to be dark because if I brightened it it looks unnatural.

For the first - I did use 2 exposures - one for the foreground and one for the sky - but that wasn't to increase the brightness of the foreground, it was just to use a lower ISO so that I could get cleaner shadows.

Thanks! I haven't decided on what shots to get printed yet. Still working through processing the many photos I took from the trip!
