Nice one. When ever I am down there in Inland Empire area for work, I think about your shots. Just need to get some time and model for a shoot while there. It is just that works gets in the way.

She needs some help getting a pose that looks natural and comfortable. Lighting is nice and soft. Natural looking.

I'm experimenting with a Wescott Apollo strip box and the AD600 remote head.
Here is one example. Sorry its not a young beauty, just a craggy old man.
The strip box has some interesting features in addition to the indirect light. The velcro strip is well back so the diffusion panel and grip are about 2 inches back from the edge of the box. That helps with feathering.
This shot the light was feathers so I could only see a thin strip of the diffusion fabric in the grid squares.
I enhanced the lighting in Lightroom.
1/250, ISO 100, F2.8, TTL on the AD600. A7RII, with 90mm G macro.

Scott,
This is a good example of how one can control the sun on location. Nice result. crisp shadow but not block up under her chin.

David I like the lighting.

I had to read your post several times before I finally figured out how you are using the strip box. It was different than I first envisioned when I first looked at your picture. I can see now the difference in the greater amount of light on one side of your face from the other. At first I thought you were aiming the strip box straight on and had modified the strip to project a narrow sliver of light.

Years ago I bought some small SP Studio Systems strip boxes to try and recreate a lighting setup, similar to yours. It was on a VHS video I had where a guy was using a modified strip box straight on. He changed the distance and the size of the opening to change the light fall off and the amount of the face that received the most light. Like most everything else still on my list of things to try.

Rand,
Here is a simple diagram to illustrate.

I found that feathering the light away from the face was the best way to control how much and where it hit the subject. With a model it would help to have a modeling light to assist in fine tuning.

Thanks David. This was my first time working with a model. Her poses were her own. I'm used to directing people who are uncomfortable in front of the camera and I found it surprisingly strange to direct her, almost like I was afraid I'd mess up her flow. She did ask me for suggestions though and in hindsight I wish I'd spoken up a few times.

Any chance you want to let me know what you might have done to get more from that pose, or the pose in the photo I've attached below. These past few months I've been doing my best to improve my direction and understanding of posing, so anything helps.

And, any C+C is welcome and appreciated.

Here's another:
