I'm the Operations Director at a nonprofit that works with people with disabilities. In addition to State and Federal reporting, grant-writing, IT, staff supervision and general business duties, I'm also responsible for our 3D printing program, which is what started my interest in digital photography.

We post our 3D printed projects to social media daily, and my smartphone was not producing the image quality we wanted, so we picked up a Canon SX530HS P&S. After using it for both work and some personal projects I wanted to see what I could do with a better camera, so moved on to a DSLR for my own personal use.

Would love to maka money off photography eventually but competition is fierce so until I have a solid photographic background and develop a portfolio I'm glad I have a 9-5 to pay the bills.

-Joe

People ask me all the time what my "real job" is and I always come back with the same answer. I have TWO very real full-time jobs. One takes place during 8 hours of the day and the other takes place during the remaining 16.

Job 1: Mortgage banking
Job 2: residential/commercial real-estate photographer.

During the busy months I shoot on my lunch break almost every day along with 1-3 listings after work along with the weekends. Then spend the late late night processing.
