Took the 5Dsr and 1-4mk2 on eval loan through CPS(have to return today) for the week. Not a fan of dealing with such large files for family sessions but did really love the detail for wildlife. Had some of these guys and two great egrets within 10' from me fishing at the local Riparian preserve yesterday. I was bummed that it was overcast all but one day for the week I had the gear but I got a ton of great images!

Lucky to get a decent photo yesterday afternoon at the Alligator Farm.
Very harsh light. Shot in open shade.

Oh well..

I got caught in some heavy rain out on the prairie today, but I'm glad I stuck it out, because within the course of two hours I ran into herds of both wild horses and bison.

I completely blew this shot out fumbling with the settings as I swung around with the tripod in the rain, but fortunately I was able to salvage it by the sheer magic of RAW (-2.45 stops pulled):

Beautiful and unique! I love the leg motion yet the upper body is 'stopped', great capture.

Thanks! Panning for me is still 100% blind luck. I just keep shooting until the action stops and then celebrate if I can find something usable in the mass of files afterewards. :p

Better to look at an overcast day as a blessing as compared to a sunny day IMO. Ive just got home froma day out with the 5dsr and it was just harsh Sunlight all day (Middle of Summer here) . Basically all I got were ugly blocky shadows that were impossible to fix even shooting RAW. Unlike my images your posted images look fine with nice even light . Only thing that I would suggest the image may benefit from is a very minor WB adjustment to the cooler side of the WB scale but certainly exposure /lighting detail etc is spot on

and another from today.....Bad atmospherics affecting 100-400 most of the day. Could see shimmer between lens and birds it was that bad, And it was the shimmer /atmospherics that kept throwing my AF off ever so slightly as to initially make me think it was a back/front focus issue . Infact it got to the point where I ended up calling it quits earlier than normal as it was hard to get a decent image especially with direct sun shadows also impacting everything I was shooting .....Infact most of the other photogs near me allso started to pull the pin earlier than normal. I think I will have to start waking up earlier and get to the local wetlands very early morning before the day starts hotting up and atmospherics start to degrade the images shot over longer distances that require the 400mm end of the 100-400. Which is probably 95% of all images I shoot.

Image is a welcome swallow

Thanks Robert. We're having an earlier season. Unfortunately, the big oak tree roots are being damaged by the gators. The crew has put up a wooden fence to wall it off and will be taken down some smaller trees. The birds are getting spooked so I have little time to shoot.

Oh well..
