Go for it if you have gathered enough nuts to retire comfortably on. If not, get busy gathering more nuts.

I'm just wondering if there's any sense as to whether that's going to be the best price for the year or not...I know reductions on the big whites don't really come along too often. I *have* enough nuts, but I'd love to spend ALL of 'em if I don't have to :)

Just posting to share that my wife walked behind me while I was looking at this poll...

Stopped dead in her tracks when her eye caught the "$7800" in the heading. The last time I saw that look on her face was when I came home from my best friends bachelor party and had to tell her I lost my wedding ring at a strip club that I said I wasn't going to. Luckily the ring was found in my friends garage, which I was apparently commando crawling through when we came home for the night.

Anyways, I looked at this lens about 2ish years ago when is was around $9000. If it was $7800 at that time, I have no doubt that I would have made the purchase.

Don,t be afraid to let the dealer--dealers know that your seriously looking to buy this lens,,and ask what there very best price is. After 3 toed the Canon line of set Canon price one of them came down a reasonable amount after a second follow up call to ask if they had had a chance to reconsider.

Yesterday,,people thought I was the best thing since sliced bread,,,,,to-day I am toast !

It wouldn't surprise me if the 600/4 DO when it comes out later this year it will be around $14,000...after all the 600/4 II is $11,500.....I suppose it makes the 500/4 II good value at $7,800.

I strongly doubt the DO will be that expensive. And even so, used prices of all other teles will go down ;)

Well, I won't tell you what to do, but if I had the money, that baby would be on its way to me right now.
