Well I talked to Canon today..... they said they found nothing wrong with the camera even though they admit the photo samples I sent from 4 different lenses did not look in focus. In the end, they are refusing to give me a new camera body or refund my money. They did insinuate I did not know how to use the camera. I reminded them I have owned a 5D, a 5D2, two 5D3s plus several other high end Canon bodies over the past 16 years & never had any problems with them.

So any suggestions on what to do next? I have spoken twice with a high end Canon Executive.

It is a difficult thing to sort out. Canon do not believe my initial focus problems, although I do not seem to have the same issues, even in low light (I focused on a still subject at 1/10sec f4 and ISO12k, which is impressive because I could hardly see). I still have a problem with my sensor and the yellow stripes but am busy at work and home and it is difficult to spend time trying to get things fixed or talk to people. For now I also need the body and the quieter shutter. But I will have to sort it out before the summer when I will need those shadow pushing abilities :(

For now here is a shot at ISO10,000 taken at the weekend. Cleans up OK and will print maybe A3 in size if I need to. Main problem is DR, those patches of snow are hell. Do not try pushing too much shadow detail at this ISO.

This is insane, and frightening to anyone considering a new $3000 + purchase. Who was the retailer? They won't /can't do anything?
I really hope this is resolved, for your benefit of course, and for the benefit and peace of mind of all Canon customers.

I bought it from B&H. I did consider contacting them but then thought it would be unfair to expect them to do anything since at the time, the camera had gone into repairs twice. Thanks. I am thinking this weekend a letter will be written to the CEO of Canon. The camera should arrive today & tomorrow it will be tested with all my lenses before I act too hastily.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

I would contact B&H, they may be able to help you even with Canon. I suspect they might have a little pull! One of the reasons I buy almost everything I get from them.

If you are inside the return period form B&H, which you may not be given the trips to Canon you might want to contact them...but B&H is awesome about returns...can't hurt to contact them...

How long have you had it? Definitely contact B&H. My experience is excellent customer service with them. This would have been my first choice rather than returning for repair. Worse case scenario, letter to your state attorney general's office and file complaint with BBB. You'll probably have a new camera real quick.

Camera just arrived. In the letter they recommend that I keep it at all factory settings!!!!!!!!! That means making no alteration to anything.

What? Why? Is it defective that you can't make changes?

Canon Marketing: We've spent the last 30 years making it so that this $3K camera is as customizable as your kids Lego's

Canon engineers: What else can we do to make the 5D5 even more customizable?

Canon Customer Support: We just do what the techs tell us. They say your camera is fine.

Canon Techs: You don't know how to use this sophisticated piece of engineering, so don't touch any of the settings, leave it in "P". You'll see, the engineers are so good, the camera will do it all by itself.

What an insult! They should return $2k to you if the camera can only be used as a point and shot.vmad
