I have no issue with my non-Art version but do not mind adopting that baby for that price :)

that's an amazing sharpness chart, F1.4 is hardly different from F8

At that price and weight ( and perhaps focussing issues)I'll stick with my Nikon 85 f1.8G

After the reviews that came out today, I'm really starting to think I had operator problems with the copy I rented from Lensrentals. Sharpness wasn't in the same league as my 35 Art (or even the 24), even with the shutter speed in the 1/500-1/1000 ballpark. It was hitting focus, but just didn't have that sharpness I was looking for and was used to seeing with the 35.

probably a dropped lens with tilted elements? I've bought lenses with that issue before, had to get 2 repaired, and returned one. That was my bad luck photography year, over a decade of shooting, and a batch of bad lenses all acquired in one year. Nikon, Sony, Canon, and Sigma, my problems were well spread apart

After seeing the Lensrentals MTF review, I'm wondering even more, because they raved about how small the copy-to-copy variation was.

If I had the spare cash my 1.8G would be on the block. Quite disappointed with it's focussing speed, AF consistency and sharpness

Not that I would buy this lens either way, but it wouldn't really bother me since I could fix it fast and easily in LR.

It would be interesting to see an 85mm f1.2L III since their BR Optics are meant to reduce CA.

The 85 1.2 is a dog for wedding work. Its Just to slow to lock

that 85 1.4 L IS will cost north of 2200. I'm sure it'll be great but my Art has proven to be amazing. My 85 and 200 are equal in performance and make all my other lenses feel like poop consumer lenses :)
