Wow - great tip... makes me want a 7D2 & Extender now!

Would you set the focal length between 400 and 600mm, or what?

And which extender will play nicer - a Canon body & Canon extender with a sigma lens - or - a Sigma extender (and Sigma lens) with Canon body....?

I have both Sigma and Canon extenders and find that the sigma extender+sigma lens works best with my 5D3.

I like what I like.
Gear- Canon Eos 5D Mark III, 7D2, Canon EF 300mm f2.8L IS II USM, EF 70-200mm fl4L IS USM, EF100mm f/2.8L IS USM, EF 16-35mm f4L IS USM. Canon extenders 1.4x & 2x MKIII.

Sid set your focus limiter it makes a big difference.

Yeah, I did do that once I'd remembered you could!

Focal length is not what is limited, it's the focus distance that is, i.e. 0m - infinity or 10m - infinity.

It's a nice shot to be sure, I suppose we should expect an f9 lens to have a bit of a hard time in our typical winter gloom. Roll on the better weather.

Your shutterspeed is quite low 1/160 on these, are they handheld?, if so nice job.
I'm always wondering what the "keepers" rate is because to me these small birds move fast en a lot when you try to take a shot.
