Love it, Jeff! I find it cute/funny that your deer have bigger heads and smaller ears than my blacktail deer.

I know, my deer are very chunky strong looking deer. I think they need to be. The one on the right is the one above. The left is mom sorry this image is early in the morning and there was just not enough light

Well of course! That is when they are at their chunkiest.

I think any deer that live in harsh northern winter climes get an extra-thick coat and extra muscle and fat reserves. I don't think it is something that is limited to your area, but then again I don't frequent central Alberta or central Manitoba, so I may be completely wrong.

By the way, Jeff, I'd love to see some of your bucks-in-the-rut images - I bet you get snow during the rut in your area, which must make for some awesome big buck opportunities! Is it a mid-November rut, or do they rut a bit earlier where you are? Or later?

.

Yes we have snow in the first or second week of November. This Year it was the later end of October. The Deer hunt is second week. We have some big bucks and racks here in Ontario. In my area the bush is thick so its not like open field country like south of me or down in the Farmers fields.
