We continue to get pounded by storms in Northern California. Quite a change from the last 4 years of drought. Here a red-tailed hawk faces off with a BNSF stack train. You can look back in this thread at older shots to see how brown this area had been

Here are a few from the railroad museum in Sacramento. I've got to go back-I could easily spend days in there. I grabbed these with a new Sigma 17-50 2.8 on a 50D.

In the northern part of the state, yes. The south is still pretty dry.

How lucky you are to be able to see a freshly painted engine! And then 2 of them to boot!

All I ever see are very old worn out engines, but really no good place to get decent pictures of them either

Northern indiana problems. The CN engines are in really bad shape. At least NS you see the occasional clean one

What's with the green lights? I don't recall ever seeing those before.

The lights indicate the switch alignment. The picture was taken at the Union Pacific's West Colton yard. The locomotives are moving out from the engine pool and getting into position to head back into the departure yard to hook up to their train. The photo below provides another view of the switch lights as another power consist waits to head back to hook up to its train.
