I tried to further do it to death but when I got up there the fog was such that I could see just past the guard rail on the loop at the bottom left of yours.

I know exactly what you mean. On my first trip there we went to Twin Peaks three times, the first of which was just us looking at a grey wall. Luckily we had enough time, so I kept pestering my friend to go back there.
