I feed the songbirds, but draw the line at birds of prey. Feeding raptors can make them associate food with people, and cause issues like owls getting hit by cars while crossing roads coming in for an expected meal. I've seen videos of people baiting owls, and then taking the rodent away from the owl which really frosts me, and then you get the ones that tease them by using cat toy mice on fishing line all the while these birds are hunting to survive. I've always enjoyed watching wildlife and studied wildlife management in school. Photography is a useful way to document what I've seen/observed, but I wouldn't do some of the stuff I've seen people do in videos online.

Jeff started this thread a while back. It was very interesting.

I thought this Brown Pelican was going to land on the dock I was standing on as I watched it fly towards me through the viewfinder. They sure fill the frame quickly. :p

Man, you're really showing off that 400 DO. Until very recently I worked at Canon Virginia and just before I left I was talking to the group leader of the lens department and he was telling me how awesome this lens is. He's not one to go out and use it, but from a sharpness and reliability point of view, he was really impressed (and he's not easily impressed LOL). I actually was asking him about the 100-400 II and he brought up this lens. Your images really seem to confirm the IQ of it.

I thought I was well covered in the trees, clearly not by the way he's looking straight down the lens!

So these two gulls had a bit of disagreement.

Very wiindy and partly cloudy on the Katy Prairie today, very few birds available. These two were the best of the day:

Muscovy Duck. I thought this big bird looked good in a bit of sunlight and he was close:
