Its an amazing lens.....I had the 17-40 too and as amazing as that lens still is, this one is just better in all the right spots. TACK sharp all the way across, which was always my biggest issue with the 17-40.

That's good to know! Hoping to be wowed like I was with the 24-70II and the 70-200II. Can't wait! The IS will be nice to have for urban hiking without a tripod.

Canon has been producing stellar lenses recently.

Finally had some time today to take this one out for a test drive.

The temperature had dropped 50 degrees (Fahrenheit of course) in 24 hours. Wanted to capture that in the photos. Also wanted to shoot it wide open to see the much-touted sharpness for myself...

Another one. Different place.

Nice to have the IS. I usually never hike with a tripod.

The much touted sharpness, of what? Your exif(?) data doesn't indicate.

Yeah, IS is good.

What lens would you be talking about?
Can we assume the 16-35 f4? Data doesn't say

So what do you think?

In terms of sharpness, it definitely delivers - corner to corner, wide open. Much better than the 17-40 and 16-35 2.8II that I owned previously. Can't say too much in how it renders colors and contrast since it was such a gray day yesterday. I want to see how it handles flare.

In terms of handling, it is well built yet light. Balances well on the camera. Feels a lot like the 100mm L in those respects. The IS is most certainly a nice feature to have. Looking forward to shooting more tests today. At least the sun is shining!

Yes, the 16-35mm f/4L IS.
Not sure why the lens data doesn't show up.

"Encroachment"

Fun roaming around pixel peeping to see what all this lens captured and not be penalized for being near the corners with a full frame camera.
