Well not anymore I'm not! There's a FB group?

Hey, I like the ones I've been active with, the key "element" being that as a whole they are about photography, the members are active photographers, some of them excellent at their work!

I will acknowledge, though, that some time ago, a long-time "chatter" in these threads, Sam Horton, actually roped me into a TF Facebook "happening"! I don't know if it was the group that chet linked to, but we had some fun! :)

I like groups which are not political and outspoken. I respect a persons right to their opinion, regardless of how wrong they are, but confrontation and bickering are not enjoyable. I'm kind of surprised to see how many people are taking a hiatus from FB. In my office I had to implement a "phones away" policy due to the constant checking and posting on facebook via their cellphones. This directly took them away from the attention required to efficiently perform the job they were getting paid to do.
I check now and then on mine, never at work, but since November, some of my closest friends became...very vocal about their beliefs. I have blocked a few because of the over the top proclamations, but once things settle, I'll unblock them.
Like a few others, I use it to post photos sometimes, but those are the same photos I post here or on my flickr or 500px account.
I can remember a quieter time when respect was tantamount to a conversation. Now days, it's who can scream the loudest and carry the biggest banner. I'm not opposed to those who exercise their right to be heard. I just don't like the "in your face!" approach. And that's my rant! :-)

A co-worker of mine was out at the lake for a swim and put his trousers on top of a fire ant mound. He got some rant in the pants really bad and got bit in some very sensitive areas. For those of you that have never experienced a fire ant attack it can be simulated quite easily by dumping a charcoal chimney full of hot coals down your shorts. It is not a pleasant sensation.

They are sneaky little guys. They can swarm on you without biting and when you have dozens, they all bite at once.

Exactly my experience. I was working on a newly repaired chainsaw......well, starting it up, so only a minute or so. Then as you suggested, they all started biting at once....they have that team thing down pat.

My experience was similar but I was leaning against the front of my car taking a picture of a sunset and evidently I was also standing on a ant hill. The order came down and they chomped all at once. I did find something that will greatly reduce the burning though. You just have to scrub it in pretty quickly before their venom takes hold. Evidently it has the same active ingredient as the pharmacy stuff at a fraction of the cost.

Actually I have had the pleasure. My first night at Bergstrom AFB in Texas, I laid my pants on the floor when I went to bed. I got dressed in the dark the next morning as to not wake up my wife, slipping on my pants first. The pain was immediate and fierce, from my feet to my waist and all the delicates in between. When my wife managed to hit the light switch, we found the floor (and my pants) crawling with fire ants.

Fire ants are no joke.

Stepped on a fire ant mound when I was a little tyke in Alabama, wearing sandals. I had scars on my toes well into my teens.
