MD-11 I believe. Winglets, also extended fuselage (compared to DC-10/MD-10), larger-diameter engine nacelle at the tail position, and smaller horizontal stabilizer.

Some of the Fedex MD-11's where ex American Airlines as passenger jets and used for Intercontinental Flights, used to see the regularly at LHR UK in the 90's.

Yes. Also, as I recall FedEx bought some of the first DC-10s and MD-11 "test ships", the ones that were ridden hard and put away wet to conduct the FAA performance tests. McDonnell Douglas didn't feel comfortable selling them as passenger jets, so they gave Fed Ex a discount on these. I worked on the MD-11 program as a structural engineer.

Very cool, I enjoyed working on the project and playing a tiny, tiny part in the development of a large commercial jet aircraft (this is one of the things you realize - that thousands and thousands of people play a role). I was on that project for three years, and even though I moved out of aerospace into a totally different field, it was overall a great experience.

My all-time favorite is and will always be the 747. :love:
