Well. It would seem I killed the challenge this time around. I thought a challenging pic would be interesting to tackle.

Sat down studied it several times and came to the same conclusion each time: the interesting in it i inaccessible, That rear car the black and rple is the key, or i=I should say its right rear wheel is. It's off the ground...is he pushing it so hard to catch the yellow car? Is he just pushing too hard and about to lose it? or was there something in the road that caused him to veer off to the right and torque that wheel up?. But there is no way of ever telling as the picuture was framed to far to the right and any helpful hints are gone from view. A challenge yes, but a futile one.

Couple of Canon bodies, a couple of Canon lens, few gadgets all stuffed in a bag...and a stick, and a tripod.

It's also out of focus. Not much you can do with an OOF image.

Here's my attempt.

I admit I was stymied too for a long time. Either OOF or movement blur. I tried sharpness, increasing clarity and a high-pass filter, and wound up with some very sharp noise. :) Before I decided to embrace the softness and even play with it by adding some motion blur. Instead of straightening I gave it some Dutch Tilt. Cropped it and was going to crop some more of the black car, but I liked that it's wheel was off the ground. Added some exhaust flames because flames are cool.

ACR auto fix plus reduce exp., increase vibrance, reduced clarity, extreme luminance noise reduction, slight curve adj.
In PS, extreme crop, ran a oil paint filter, duplicated layers and played blend modes, flattened and ran an extreme noise reduction filter.

Before and After - The Weekly Editing Challenge
...now compiled into a single, easy to locate thread, that can be added to your subscribe/follow list!

Rules are simple:

  • Download the image file from the current week

  • Contestants will have 7 days to edit the image and post their edited version to the thread (27FEB17)

  • The owner of the original image will choose a winner

  • The winner will copy & paste this post and include a new downloadable image link

The new image must be unedited / SOOC (straight our of camera), full-resolution, and in a RAW format, ie. CR2, DNG, TIF, etc
(Dropbox works well for uploading and linking these large files)

The purpose of this game is to be creative and learn new editing techniques. You must give some insight into exactly how you went about editing the image. For example, increased shadows sliders, reduced highlights, local sharpening, white balance adjustment, specific filters used, tone curve adjustments, etc. Comments and/or questions regarding the edits are encouraged.

BTW, in case you're wondering why it's so crooked, I've had the camera mounted sideways on one of those silly plastic tabletop tripods, which wanted desperately to tip over and send my camera into the icy (it was 12*F that evening) waters below, so I'm holding down one leg to keep the camera from doing a Brody, and the weight of the lens keeps making the camera droop. And in the other hand I've got my cell phone running Canon Camera Connection in lieu of a remote cable release. Fun times!
