Probably the most 'portrait' like picture I've seen here so far. Even with the 600mm it seems like you must have been quite close.
I only ever see Buzzards when I'm driving so I'd love to get a shot like this one day.

So many outstanding images above.
So how about a not outstanding image but sure was fun getting.
Yep, my neighborhood hawk. Approximate distance 340 yards.
Yes sir, 2250mm and this image is not cropped.
Focal length approximately 2250mm, via a Sony Nex6 + Swarovsky TLS APO + Swarovsky 95ATX.
He can run, err fly high (well over 150 feet above me) but he can't hide----well until the leaves come back :)
Digiscoping I think has a fun place in photography but I won't be carrying this set up far either.

Black shouldered Kite from local wetlands. This partiicular Kite is a regular at a spot I go to get shots of spotted crakes . He must be getting used to me as he is letting me get closer than normal. As the atmospherics in summer are super bad for telephotos getting a shot at 400mm where he fills the frame and I dont need to crop much is like winning the lottery....

I prefer to be in the bush with the animals than a crowded city.

I too can easily walk up to Downy's, Hairy's, Red Breasted Nuthatches, and Chickadees, but I can't get the quality of shots that you get Jeff!

The Wild Turkeys started strutting their stuff this morning! Prior to this, I had only seen females over the last few months.
Sorry, certainly not a portrait!
