First shots with my new 1DXII. I thought the focus ability of my 7DII was great, but this is amazing.

I am still not sure why having a mode button that you have to press, and then spin the shutter speed dial is better than having a mode dial on top of the camera. I don't own a 1DX2, but do have a 1DIV. Having the MODE on a button instead of a dial allows me to control MODE from EOS Utility while shooting tethered. Can't do that with any 'dial' bodies. It also allows me to take any of the settings (P, Av, Tv, M, B) out of the 'rotation' if I want.

But once I got past that, the 1DX2 made my job much easier. It's AF system is so much better than the 7D2. Even when shooting something like an airshow, I get a lot more keepers than I ever did with the 7D2. Enjoy your upgrade. It's awesome. I have the "itch" to try the 1DXII for air shows. I currently use the 1DMKIV. I get pretty good results (but not always) using the 300 f2.8 IS II and When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.

I get pretty good results (but not always) using the 300 f2.8 IS II and 2xIII (600mm). One benefit - perhaps - is that the 300/2x will perform better with the 1DXII. But the 1DMKIV has a 1.3 sensor, the 1DXII full frame. So my 300mm lens on my 1DMKIV appears to have a fov the same as if a 390mm lens was mounted on the 1DXII. In other words, with the 1DXII I lose some reach. Also, I lose pixel density going to the 1DXII, even though it has 20mp compared to the 16mp on my 1DMKIV. Well, all this is important when shooting those small aerobatic planes high in the sky. So, for people who shoot subjects at a distance (birds, planes, etc) did going from a crop sensor camera to the 1DXII seem like a drawback for you? And for those who have used both cameras, do you see much difference in IQ and DR? Comments appreciated! My first "long" lens was the 100-400 v1. It wasn't good enough, so I bought a 300 2.8 II about 4 years ago. I used it heavily as a bare lens and also with the 1.4xIII and 2xIII extenders. However, after the 100-400 II came out, I found myself using the 300 II less and less. I ended up trading it in on the 1DX2. Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

I was hoping I could just connect the camera and it would come up on my desktop like an additional drive. No you don't need to install it. Jusy plug it in and turn on the camera and it will show up on the desktop.

However, when I plugged it in and turned it on my photos app popped up and I could see the pictures in there, but no icon appeared on my desktop.

I'm just wondering if it comes up like a drive when I'm using my card reader and not my camera. I can't remember exactly now.

I use to do something like this but since I have turned off automatic picture review, I now have it set up for Picture Review and I love it. It is just the way I hold the camera now with my middle finger on this button that it is so fast to review the pictures and doesn't require changing my grip on the camera. Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.
