Bees-in-Flight over Azaleas

These are handheld at very near MFD (12') and are cropped a bit. Lens is stopped down a bit to gain some DOF. Fascinating subjects.

Lot's of bird activity these days as Spring approaches. I really need to start taking photos of things that aren't birds...

Great shot of the Pileated. Thinking about trying out this lens on the 7D2. Looks like winter has derailed the approach of spring today for you and for me.

The Green Anoles were pushed out by the Brown Anoles in Florida as well.

They still exist by my house although the yard is full of the browns. We also have a hardy little stock of geckos.

For those who may be interested, these shots are from a Sony a7R II. with a Sigma MC-11 adapter and a Canon 400mm f4 DO IS II. They are all cropped and edited. Base ISO was 1600. I do not know why unless it is the software in the Sigma adapter. The camera was set on auto ISO. Consequently the shutter speeds were quite high. Apertures ranged from f5 to f9. I don't know if the reported information is true. IBIS did not come on when I turned IS on the lens off, so I reapplied the IS, which did work. Focusing was very fast and accurate. These images are at the APS-C format setting rather than full-frame.

This lens on a crop camera, with the 1.4x extender is awesome. Super light weight and portable, great for walking around. My DO + 80D are inseparable, and I think it'd be the case with the 7D2 also :)

Winter this year has been hampering my bird shots; it's either nice temperature + terrible light, or windy cold + great light. Luckily the days are getting longer, so more opportunities are presenting themselves! We hardly got hit this past Tuesday, and despite the bitter cold I was able to get out yesterday for some shots.

Also, a new 1st for me!!! What I thought was yet another woodpecker of some sort, turned out to be something altogether unexpected. I didn't think I'd ever see one in my area! This taken in shade at the end of the day, as the sun was being blocked by tall trees behind me, and so wasn't best for optimum exposure. Wish I would have had higher SS, so next time will remember that.

These guys are fast! I'm eager to try out my blind to see if I can't get some shots in better light (especially dive-bomb fishing shots!).
