Have you tried checking the EXIF of a raw file with some decent software, eg. exiftool to see what that says? Looking at the EXIF in one of your 300-800 files only shows what photoshop has written not what was there originally.

Does the same thing with my 150-600 OS C thinking its the Canon 100-400

I actually think it might be a bug in how Sigma reverse engineered the Canon mount and such..

It's a bug in the way your software, whatever that is, reads and then displays the exif. The exif looks to have been correctly interpreted at flickr.

its not a bug with Sigma.

I had Tamron 150-600, Sigma 150-600 S, and now Sigma 150-600 C and Windows and other windows based utilities recognized exif correctly.

Weird.. just the forum then.. cause as stated Flickr reads it fine as does Lightoom..

Or its something else

You're more than lucky if you can get focus lock at 600 mm with birds in flight if they are close
.

I did get lucky and in a pretty unusual circumstance. The adrenaline is still flowing a couple of weeks later :-)

I think he meant locking in on the part of the bird that you want in focus........it looks like the lens focused about 4 inches behind the face in the image you posted above. Part of the wing is in focus, and parts of the legs are in focus.........

With stuff that's really close and moving really fast, coming right at the camera, today's gear really does still struggle to keep up.

Just stepped out on this extremely cold March night to grab a photo of the full moon with my Canon EOS Rebel T6s, Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary and Kenko 1.4x TC, shot from a tripod but using live view and AF which worked very well.

UPS just delivered a package from Adorama today. I've been wanting to play with this lens for quite a while. Here's one from my first outing.

I'm surprised that the little guy held his ground like that . . . if Sasquatch was standing just a few feet away from me, I'd be outta there!

He never knew I was there. That business about Sasquatch smelling bad is pure nonsense.
