welps I did a quick compare between the 70-300g vs 100-300.

generally, the 70-300g was sharper wide open, while the 100-300 was sharper stopped down. Pretty interesting, didnt expect that. The 100-300 has some CA issues, even stopped down, mostly @300, the 70-300 is clean in that regard.

the contrast difference is huge with high contrast targets

attached are shots at F8 and size difference

left 70-300g right contax 100-300.

did tests at all marked focal lengths, wide open and f8. the attached can pretty much summarize stopped down results between the two accross the frame. Contax generally better stopped down all matching focal lengths

Whats the weight difference like Charlie? I assume the Contax is heavier. This whole time I thought you had the Canon 100-300!

hard to tell a difference, the 70-300 is a little hard to fit into the bags I have since it's a little fat fella, but they weigh similar. I've had the canon 100-300L in the past, it cant compare to either frankly.

both are big lenses

70-300g = 861g/1lb 14oz
100-300 + adapter = 1000g/2lb 3oz

you pick them up one by one, both are heavy lenses, the differences harder to tell weight wise. With the contax being so skinny and long, it's easier to bring in and out of my bags, but at the same time, absolute limit in length. Was afraid it might be too long (I should have checked last time I bought one  ).

will probably do some shots on friday. Contax looking very favorable at this point, was viewing my test chart for good measure, and it's good, very high sharpness wide open (maybe oof for testing?). Hopefully I can get out this weekend to evaluate more carefully.

Sounds like my house. My wife has a "no models" policy in place. Meanwhile, she's always wondering what lens "we" should buy next. I can't complain.
