If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Been waiting for a good deal on the 16-35 f4L. I was planning to buy new, but this deal is too good to pass up. I've always been happy with the refurbished gear I've bought in the past.

This'll be my first UWA lens, so I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with it. Thinking that it will make a great travel/architecture lens.

I landed the same deal a year ago and made it painless when I sold it recently. Although I think I shouldn't of done that I may rebuy this one.

Just to be curious, why did you sell it? Was it to upgrade to a different ultra-wide or just didn't use it much?

The 16-35 IS is a great lens for landscapes. My go-to when on vacation. For a time, I was thinking of selling and upgrading to the Mark III. However, the price is very prohibitive and the lack of IS hurts when I need to handhold.

I don't do landscape/cityscape/architecture much. I shoot people and prefer to have fast primes. The lens performs flawlessly and it made me some money last summer too but I only used it at 16-24mm and I never thought it was wide enough. I even sold the Tamron 15-30 as it just wasn't wide enough for my liking and that lens matched the F4 very closely with a slight edge to the canon more being better colors/contrast.

I think I'm gonna try the 12-24 art. This will satisfy my focal length... I'm also in debate with a lighter prime option like the 12mm 2.8 laowa or 11mm F4 firefly. I really feel 11mm is too wide for me though. I had the 14mm rokinon but didn't like the distortion at all but the focal length was nice.

I was wondering if the 16-35 would be enough for vacations. I usually take the 24-105, so I'm not sure how much I'll miss the long end of that focal range. Would be nice to leave the extra weight at home though.

When I travel, I never take a standard FL lens with me. Usually, it's the 16-35 IS and 70-200 f/2.8 II when I need the reach. For my needs, which is landscape, nature, etc., I haven't missed the 36-69mm focal range much. The standard focal range seems boring to me, but that's just my two cents.

My vacations usually involve tons of hiking and landscape type shots, so your mileage may vary. I am going to Italy and Scandinavia later this year, so may think about bringing a more general purpose focal length lens. I'll have to see.

To answer your question, it depends on what you do on vacation.

Mostly landscape? 16-35 is fine. The 35mm serves as a decent walk around focal length. If you're worried about needing something longer, maybe bring a 50 or 85 prime, or the 24-70 IS, which I don't own but heard good things about.

If you're just walking around town most of time, you may need to just bring the 24-105, or the aforementioned 24-70 IS.

I picked up a 430EX III for $200. Still watching in case they restock the 85L but I think I missed it. Rats!

I ordered the 24-70 II... Should pair well with my 70-200 II for sports and travel.
I'm really looking forward to adding it to my kit!

I doubt you have a chance to get it if you're not on cpw email list for when it comes in stock
