At some point, however, Canon's policy changed so that they would not fix a mirror unless it had actually failed.

Not true had both 5D's done at the same time both mirrors intact repair date was Feb 20, 2015. S/N's 2921XXXXXX and 2821XXXXXX.

I said "Canon policy changed."

As the 5D got closer to the end of its official support, they stopped doing the fix unless the mirror was actually broken.

Unless they lied to me when they refused to do mine.

I remember hearing about that too near the end of the repair period. Cant find specifics now, Canon has removed alot of the advisory info they had issued.

Just find one where it's been fixed...there's enough out there that there's no reason to buy one that needs a fix...unless you're looking to go even cheaper than they are currently selling

Quite true,

My 1D II shutter failed a few times while I was at the beach where I live. But both my 5Dc's handle the salty air fine.

*Shrug*

As mentioned, completely anecdotal. I think the mirror fix, while real, is exaggerated a hair simply by being well documented for a decade.

I honestly don't know if either of my 5Dc's have had the mirror fix.

Very best,

Its easy, check post #46 - https://photography-on-the.net …read.php?t=1173689&page=4
