Glad you decided to open up the folder. Those are some cool looking birds, and shots. I hope to get a chance to photograph them some day.

We like to fly into Anchorage, Alaska, rent a car & go explore. Sometimes I don't even make reservations so we can be free to wander. I am hoping to go back for my 7th time next year.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

All the clamor for 500s and 600s yet the 100-400ii with the 1.4TC is still amazing for IQ and unbeatable for variation.

These guys are all over Alaska....everywhere. I would just pull over the car, pop off a few shots and move on to the next one. I think I photographed about 5 eagles a day. :)

I'm waiting for the 600 DO to come out. The 500 II is eminently hand holdable and I don't want to give that up, even though the extra 100mm is seductive. But yeah, the 500 and 600mm are works of art.

I went to the 2017 Photography show at the NEC Birmingham on Saturday, Canon had a huge area where you could try all their gear. Being interested in the big whites myself a Canon Rep said that the coming 600 f4 DO BR will be a vast improvement on the 600 f4 II. It will incorporate Blue spectrum refractive optics that will completely eliminate CA. He said that its main feature being a reduction in size and weight.

Thinking about this it would be a much desired lens as it would be easy to take on planes and transport, but most importantly hand holdable for BIF. Big question is how much ?????

This probably explains why there were big reductions at the show for the 600 f4 II.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Hi Sam, All he said was end of the year, we mostly spoke about the huge 1200mm f/5.6 they had on display, only 20 ever made (hand built), A fascinating lens...

I took a bunch of pictures of Puffin in Alaska a couple of summers ago and just realized that I still hadn't opened about half of them...until today!

These are gorgeous, Maureen. A bit different from our puffins (Arctic Puffin) but the same cute character!

We have all the 3 extant species of puffin here in North America, the Atlantic Puffin, which is the same as what you see in Europe, and the Tufted Puffin and Horned Puffin, which are both Pacific species.
