Correct me if i'm mistaken but i seem to remember reading somewhere that it was the canon tc mk lll that had problems after the firmware update but that the sigma contemporary still worked with the mk ii version.

Absolute RUBBISH i get auto focus in rubbish light at 840mm no problem. I just set the distance limiter to what i see fit regarding subject distances, I always laugh when i read these tests and comments lol. Saying it can not focus properly past 400 is imho laughable either that or i have the only siggy that performs well with the converter at 840mm and i doubt that very much. Songbirds are constantly moving and look how sharp my shots have been at 840mm.

That is interesting Mark as my set up struggles in poor light. I will have to look into this a bit more.

Canon R6 II, RF 800mm.
I like what I like.

This was not my experience when I tried the Sigma 150-600 with the Sigma 1.4 tc.
I could not get the combo to af in anything other then very bright contrasty light conditions. It didn't even try to AF. When I called Sigma u.s.a. They told me that this is normal. That is why I was so surprised to see the results you were getting at 840mm and why I contacted you by p.m. To see if there was something I was missing. I had the same experience when I tried the Tamron 150-600 G2 with matching t.c. And got a similar response from Tamron. I am familiar with the focus limiter switch and use it on all of my lenses that are so equipped. I would add that I did get AF up to about 500mm but nothing I could depend on after that.

Starting to sound you are one of the fortunate ones.

Two shots with the 150-600 on an 80D, one without a TC, and one with the older Sigma 1.4 APO converter that allegedly "isn't compatible" but most certainly is, although focus is a bit jittery at 600 on subjects as close as this. I used liveview in the end to focus on his eyes as the bird was only moving up and down as the branches swayed.
This little beauty had got one of my sparrows from the garden a few minutes earlier, but had finished it off by the time I had run in and got the camera, mounted the big lens, got to the top floor window.... Both "hand-held", lens supported on the angled edge of a Velux window, so only vertical "support". The IS is damn good on this lens!
There is also video from the same place with the 150-600 on my YouTube channel - not sure if I'm allowed to post that here?

Very minimal crop on this one:

and with Sigma 1.4X Teleconverter EX APO DG, cropped to portrait orientation keeping full frame height from original:

I'm fairly sure it's just yours that is different, I've been pretty underwhelmed with the AF performance, the same as most everyone else.
Keep on keeping on mate, before it changes it's mind! ;)
