Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary

I know that when I did MFA on my 100-400 it hit focus better than previously. That's what I base my results on.

Curious, do you vary your AF settings or do you mainly stay consistent only using - for example - center AF point - or even expanded center AF point?

Can you share what settings you have the best results with or at least tell us what settings to avoid?

I use BBF have done for about 6 months and will never go back , My keeper rate has massively improved, Single spot and for Alservo i use single with 4 helpers.

Another lovely shot Mark. These birds are very active locally and one (2?) keep cominmg into the carport to attect their reflections in the car windows! Cleaning off the **** is a daily task

On Sunday evening, I ordered the TC-1401. Anxious to try it out with my 5D IV. I paid the $3.99 extra for one-day shipping, which should have arrived on Tuesday. Unfortunately nothing has showed up yet. On the tracking information, on Monday morning it says "Left seller facility, in transit to Carrier Facility" (which is FedEx). Nothing since then....maybe it fell of the back of the truck, but apparently it has still never even made it to FedEx

Quick update.

I talked to Amazon yesterday, who verified that there had been no tracking information since it left the seller facility, and never even made it to the carrier (FedEx). They agreed to cancel that order, and order a replacement for me with overnight shipping for no extra cost. Cool.

So today I get home and see that I have 2 boxes from UPS. I open them both up and, lo-and-behold, I have two TC-1401 boxes. So apparrently they printed a FedEx label for it, but then eventually shipped it UPS (which showed up 5 days later, as opposed to the original 1-day shipping I paid for).

Then, even weirder....I open up the TC-1401 box for the original one I ordered, and inside is the the 2x EX DG Teleconverter! Someone must have ordered the TC-1401, and then returned it with the older 2x in the box instead, which was then shipped to me.

Super strange...Unfortunatel​y the TC-1401 and the older 2x don't fit together...was looking forward to seeing what a 1680mm shot looks like...

Here's a couple pics that show what the teleconverter can do. Terrible subject, plus the focus is debatable. The lens with the 1.4 backfocused severely, where even -20 on my 5DIV wasn't enough. I added on -15 with the dock, with -15 on the camera and that seemed to get it much closer, but I've got some tweaking to do. The lens won't autofocus of course with the 2x so I did my best to MF or Liveview focus while handholding it!

Here's a "wide-angle" shot at a lowly 150mm, followed by bare lens at 600mm, with the 1.4 at 840mm, and with the 2x at 1200mm. Again, this is mostly just to show how much zoom you can get.

Hey gang - besides a Hoya or B&W UV filter (not paying the big bucks) - what is a good bargain 95mm filter to get for this lens?

I'm thinking Bower UV and possibly a CPL too...

also - anyone use a certain clear plastic bag over your lens for water-proofing in the rain?

"Bower" is one of those names that's been around for a while and sounds classy, but is in fact mostly junk. I think it's all re-branded no name stuff. I'd be leery of anything optical with the bower name on it. The lenses range from a best case Rokinon/Samyang re-badged, and go waaaay down from there.

Dust blowers, small camera bags and lens caps are fine, but who knows what glass is in those filters.

Maybe look at Hoya? They have a range of price points.

All that said, if you skimp on filters, you will likely adversely effect the IQ and AF of your otherwise fine lens.

I only use B+W filters.... this isn't a pride thing. They are recommended over and over on POTN so I took the advice.

That being said, some people have mentioned getting good results with Marumi DHG Super CPL's and I believe they are less expensive.
