You are right, they are quite strict. Even if you are a credentialed photographer, there are no "inside the ropes" passes at Augusta. Everyday the crowds get a little bigger which means its harder to get close, I would take the 70-300L everyday and stick the 15-85 in your pocket then you won't have any need for the 18-135. btw I was thinking of getting the 80d. How do you like it, especially its high ISO results?

I'm just torn since i don't want to ruin the experience by trying to carry round a lot of gear. I'm going Tuesday and Wednesday. I am going to bring the 18-135 on Tuesday and then i'll know if the 70-300L will be needed on Wednesday. For the Par 3 contest on Wednesday I'm thinking the 70-300L maybe a better choice. We'll see.

I'm just praying for good wether right now. They're having some issues with rain and thunder storms but it's still a little early to panic.

I love my 80D. It's a really nice camera. Better IMO than the 70D. Sharper and no focus issues the i have encountered. I haven't done much with high ISO yet so can't comment.

I agree the 80D is a cracking camera, and superior to my old 70D. The 70D was a good one, too, but the 80D surpasses it. The depth of colour with the 80D pleases me greatly. As for high ISO with the 80D, this was taken at ISO 640, handheld 1/100th sec, f5. Taken in colour and converted to BW in Lightroom. It was a damp, dark, dull day anyway. Good enough?

I absolutely love this camera. It gives nothing up to my 5D4, and these days I'm actually using it more than my 5D4! The 80D has great features, with beautiful image quality results.

Maybe, but 640 is high when compared to the 100 which is the ISO many of us are inclined to use if possible. Anyone post any shots at 3200?

Fair point. However 640 is prettty damn good on the 80D. 3200....depends on personal taste. To me it walks the line on being to noisy. If only just.

Good luck and enjoy. You are correct, too many people "watch" events through their phones or cameras instead of being in the moment. I had the pleasure of covering this last year's U.S. Open in Pittsburgh. It's nice to be going more than 1 day, gives you better luck with the weather. You can never have too much reach, the further you are from the golfers the less likely you are too disturb them with the shutter noise. I used the 400mm f/5.6 L on a crop sensor and still wanted more. The final day I went to the Canon booth and they loaned me the 200-400mm f/4 with built in 1.4x converter. That was awesome! That's the only chance I will have to use that lens, it cost $11,000!!!! Nikon didn't even have a booth (just one more reason I love Canon).

It sounds like you already know not to neglect wide angles as I did. You are always told the closer the better, then a on top of that crop. I had a friend there shooting for SI (he will be covering the Master's for the 18th year). Looking at his images a week after the Open, I learned a valuable lesson. The golfer with the crowd/clubhouse etc. in the background really told the story better than the majority of my images. The next time I saw him I informed how he had taught me a lesson. That course if beautiful, so you should get some great shots.

Thanks for the info on the 80D. I'm mostly concerned with the IQ at ISOs at 3200, 6400, and above. I cover a lot of high school sports that have terrible lighting in the gym. I love my 7D, but anything above 2000 is bad. Luckily it's only printed 2x3 in B&W in the paper. We've gone digital and our paper is now on-line. There the IQ is very noticeable. They just announced the 77D and the specs are extremely similar and it's $300 cheaper.

Shots are nothing special but taken at 6400 & 12800 respectively...JPEG SOOC.
