Not sure how you reached that conclusion. The lack of guns on the F-4 was a big design flaw that is allegedly responsible for a number of lost pilots. Cool plane, be definitely not on the list of best warplanes.

I think he was referring to the P-38 Lightning "Skidoo!" that Perfectly Frank posted.

Two flaws: First, the heating in the cockpit was terrible. Many pilots came close to frostbite on long missions. Second, they made the fighter pilots fly with a steering wheel instead of a stick. Alas, this flaw is found in many aircraft, but is normally found only in heavies. The P-38 and the U-2 are two notable exceptions where the flaw migrated to the single seat community.

I just think the Phantom was a real gutsy plane that lasted over so many years and had so many uses, just one of my faves.

Some trivia about this P-38...

This P-38 was built towards the end of WWII and never saw combat. It was used for training during the last year of the war, then
became surplus.

There are only about 6 Lightnings that are in flyable condition, with the Skidoo being the most recent Lightning to be restored, in 1988.
The Skidoo is estimated to be worth 14 million dollars.
