You have a 300 F2.8 L IS (according to your gear list) - get a Canon 2 x Mk3 extender (+ a 1.4?) and you will be well on your way. This lens takes these extenders exceptionally well and the 1DX works very well with them too! I use this combination when I don't want to haul around the Big Gun.

That was one option i am left with, but i don't know how good is my 300 2.8IS mk1 is with 2xIII anyway, even if i have 300 mk2 and i use extender i may get closer to how good is one of those big guns as you call them, so i will give it more experiment and see how much i will get with this combo compared to bare big guns.

When I first bought my Canon 2 x Mk3 extender I compared it (+ my 300 F2.8 L IS Mk1) directly to my then 600 F4 L IS Mk1. I was shooting at shortish ranges of about 6 to 10 meters (the sort of range I normally use for small birds) and, given good light, the 300 F2.8 Mk1 + 2 x Mk3 gives up surprisingly little to the 600 F4 Mk1.

Naturally the AF will suffer with the extender but, whilst a bit slower, it is still accurate.

Attached is one of the first couple of images I took with this combination on my 1D4 (didn't have the 1DX then). This is just the RAW file JPEG'd and scaled, no processing.

As i said, i have to give it a try and see, i can't say that i am impressed with the one you posted, but i am sure you wanted to show or prove a point for me, and the result sounds sharp enough, so i will try it myself one day soon i hope.

Thank you very much

This was one of the first 5 or 6 images taken with this setup and straight from the camera, other than making it small enough to post here.

Not trying to prove anything - merely showing a random image from my first outing with this combination. I don't think that posting a carefully selected and processed image would tell you much of use, do you?

Model Kristi wearing designer Mario De La Torre's beautiful, yet sexy, sheer black dress... Captured at the famous Pasadena City Hall... The warm late-afternoon sun filled both the scenery and model with an abundance of natural light... Pardon the distortion, as I was using my Canon 8-15L Fisheye glass to capture a different perspective... Cropped about 35% to balance out the model and suroundings... Hehehehe...

;)
