That was intentional but guess didn't work, eh? :-|

Just my thought here but, with the person being in silhouette, I think the eye will naturally go to the color of the wine glass. No highlighting or glow needed. Just my $.02 :)

Regardless it is definitely a "creative example" rather than just any shot that a Speedlight was used. I like it.

For those of you wondering about the hotshoe flash designation. Back in the dark ages there was a single strobe thread that included work made with all manner of flashes. But as more and more users started posting work made with portable studio style strobes the purpose of the thread got muddled. So the mods split it into two threads, this one for the small flashes that would work in a hotshoe (regardless of how it's deployed) and the other which is simply called single strobe.

Sony A7ii, 100/2.8 T5.6 STF wide open, Nikon Speedlight SB-5000:

IMAGE: http://makino.fi/rico/sony/misc/mantle3.jpg

Speedlight is bouncing off a 15" dia piece of cardboard with white surface that come from a frozen pizza. You can see the shape of this key in the egg-shaped glass ornament. There is slight leakage from the flash that I should have flagged. Key is being triggering optically (SU-4 mode) by an SB-800 in the hot-shoe: it is pointing up and doesn't contribute light on the subject. There is no ambient light, and all fill is coming from the key as stray light.

Canon, Nikon, Contax, Leica, Sony, Profoto.

Was shooting dance recital pics for the little one tonight and figured we'd throw some soccer in the mix. Neewer TT560 full power camera left in a 32" Godox umbrella softbox. RF-605 triggers with a Fuji X-T1 and 55-200.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Very nice group portrait. Very effective with the flash. Nice conversion to B&W.
