I am considering this lens but i'm a bit doubtful about it's performance in dimly lit situations and sports. Most of the photos you guys post here are of birds, but static birds. How well does it perform when shooting for example a marathon and other sports like football, handball and such ? i would most likely use it with the 5D3 and 1Ds Mark II, possibly also the old 50D.

/ Magnus

I've had this lens for a little over a year and a half now, and shoot university soccer, rugby and football - as well as a number of other sports. Love the versatility and reach. The weight takes a bit of getting used to as it's a bit of a beast, but easily rectified with a monopod. Great lens for the price imho and have been very pleased with the results.

Thanks for your reply and those fine looking sample photos, i appreciate it. Weight is not an issue for me, i can handle that as i'm coming from a now broken Canon 300/2,8. What troubles me a little is the lack of subject separation from the background. Is it sharp when shooting wideopen at 600mm ?

You will struggle with noise on the 50D. Depends how well noise cleans up with the 1DsII as it gets fairly heavy after ISO1600. 5D3 should be fine with the higher iso.

Kenko 1.4x C-AF Pro 300 Teleconverter (Canon). Has anyone had any good results using this with the lens. I àm shooting with a 7d mark2. I have come across a good deal on one.

I have used this teleconverter on a 7D II, 6D and 1Dx, using a variety of lenses, with great results.
