Thx Stiga!

Before and After - The Weekly Editing Challenge
...now compiled into a single, easy to locate thread, that can be added to your subscribe/follow list!

Rules are simple:

  • Download the image file from the current week

  • Contestants will have 7 days to edit the image and post their edited version to the thread (Friday April 7, 2017)

  • The owner of the original image will choose a winner

  • The winner will copy & paste this post and include a new downloadable image link

The new image must be unedited / SOOC (straight our of camera), full-resolution, and in a RAW format, ie. CR2, DNG, TIF, etc
(Dropbox works well for uploading and linking these large files)

The purpose of this game is to be creative and learn new editing techniques. You must give some insight into exactly how you went about editing the image. For example, increased shadows sliders, reduced highlights, local sharpening, white balance adjustment, specific filters used, tone curve adjustments, etc. Comments and/or questions regarding the edits are encouraged.

Let's see what can be done for the tiger thru tiger-proof glass!

i edited in acr, changed the white balance a bit, added contrast, blacks, saturation

in cs4 i cloned the water where it was really bright, and cropped out the white tiger, and cloned over his cage, some curve adjustments

I dont edit real well, so here was my try. I cropped, made some color and basic adjustments in LR, sent copies to PS hdr pro( -1 ,0,+1) messed around with it till I liked it, then adjusted some more in LR, which made the leaves in the water stick out too much, so I cloned them out, some dehaze on the rear rocks and very slight noise reduction. too much??

ACR for basic exposure, white/black point adjustments then PS CC for sharpening, vibrance, cloning out overblown water, remove some distracting debris on the water, crop to 5:4 ratio and brighten the eyes a little.

To easy! Though to be fair I have the same issue with our local zoo. The tigers are behind thick dirty glass. So I have some practice editing tigers behind glass! Beyond basic adjustments. I turn down the green, blue and aqua channels to -100. Then crop for composition. And lastly painted around the tiger with an adjustment brush to desaturate all but the tiger. Helps make the tiger stand out from the background IMO. Also with this same brush I pushed clarity all the way up. All editing done in LR before moving it to PS to remove the background tiger and bars.
