What did I miss? What's wrong with the white lenses???

They are white lol. Lets not go there, some people dont like them as they are more conspicuous, others dont care. Its a personal thing.

Nothing that a lens coat can't solve ߙ°ߙ°ߙ plus it provides protection against scratching- black or white.

A lens coat is definitely not the answer.

Oh, I got ya. Yes, there have been a few times that I wished that the 70-200 lenses came in black versions.

I bought a camo lens coat with my 500mm many years ago. The cover has never come off that lens. Probably looked a bit funny when I took it to non-wildlife events (kids' sports, air shows, etc.) - might have even been more conspicuous in those settings than had it been left white :)

I dont think a coat on a prime or 70-200 is too bad, but not on a 70-300L. Ive seen images of this and it looks terrible.
For me its just not wanting to attract any more attention than i have to. I live in an area that attracts a lot of tourists and i prefer to blend in, as it also attracts more undesirables (and security staff who keep telling me no professional photography allowed). Ive heard the arguments why these lens are white but if Nikon/Sigma/Tamron can do it.......

Thats what i shoot with, the 300 F2.8 IS II, add on a 1.4 or 2x teleconverter and theres really no loss in IQ. I shoot baseball and football when i need the 2.8 then add on the 2X tele and cover airshows. THe 400 would be nice but i couldnt justify the extra $, and for what i paid for this, its quiet a bit. Lol

Another to consider is the Canon 400 DO II f4. The lens is about the same size as the 300 f2.8 but half a pound lighter.
And you get 400mm with out the need of an extender.

I rented the 400 DO II twice for air shows. It's IQ and AF performance is on par with my 300 f2.8 II, with & without extenders.
A fantastic lens, me thinks.

Put on the 1.4xIII and you get a poor man's 500 f4...560mm f5.6 actually. But it's smaller, lighter, and less expensive than the 500 f4.

Friend of mine's mustang. He has actually sold it although he has a couple of more. This thing held the pro street world record for a good while. Over 3k HP.

Cannot wait for a 500 or 600 F4 DO version!! Prob another year... then hopefully we can all pickup a standard 500 II/600II for a few pennies cheaper.

Pretty cool!

My thrill of choice is a lot cheaper: Daily driver + open twisty country road. How fast can I take that corner without going over the limit and crossing the double yellow? Slow car / fast > fast car / slow... that kinda thing. Then there's the infinite number of tire choices, road surfaces, alignment settings, but nothing beats just good old fashion seat time on a familiar road. Just out driving people running all seasons and stock brake fluid (cat piss) = quite amusing.

Me too actually. I've never been much of a straight line guy... now give me some curves and we're talking. I "had" a heavily modded Z (350) until last year. It was a lot of fun but I had the suspension modded so much you just didn't want to drive it every day. I got rid of it when I got my new truck and couldn't be happier. Truck works much better for me, and I actually drive it as opposed to it sitting in the garage for months at a time. Todd has some neat stuff though.
